evaluation - by Andrew brown

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Are ancillary text we made was a magazine, we made a film magazine which had a special on are feature film “Run”.

We also included other action films in are magazine to show that this was actually an action magazine.

This would help when it came down to the public we wanted to attract really 18 – 50 males who enjoy a good action film, we believe that this magazine helped up with attracting the public we desired.

But also combined with the trailer which shows an upbeat, fast moving and a lot of action!

So I believe that the combination of both are ancillary texts and the main product that we will be successful in what we wish to achieve.

In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Some of the different conventions we have used includes, very fast and bold fonts, these portrays that this is an action film and any person who enjoys an action film will enjoy are film.

We also used a very simple name for the film “Run” its short and simple, yet cuts straight to the chase, that this film will be an intense and fast film, it also challenges the way movies are filmed by the 4 screens differently filmed at different parts of the film which were filmed at different moments allowing the action to keep going and you pick what section to watch!

We also made a magazine to show the film, which had bright colors and was very eye-catching for the film.

We also believe that the way this film has been filmed, it can pave way for future films to be shot like this especially action films, we are not the first people to use the four shot mode, a few movies out a few years ago did, but more famously the series “24” uses this to depict how much time is left and what is happening this is a very intense way of doing this.

So this is how I believe are media films uses, develops and challenges forms of conventions.

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

we had to start by using the internet for the initial research on genre and too help us get ideas on what the story line will be, we also used television to watch movies and television programs to also help to decide on a story line, we also used the internet to find out what exactly our trailer needed to include to appeal to the target audience, and what the repertoire of elements of a action thriller movie is. While planning and filming the trailer we had to use the internet as contact between the group along with mobile phones and face book, to make sure that everybody knew where and when they had to be at the site ready for filming, for the filming itself we used a mini dv camera and tripod, along with a dolly for moving shots, for editing we used a pc with edius pro editing software, and edius audio, when we finish filming we then started having to edit, the first step was to capture all the clips we wanted to use by playing the film back, we then had to start cut the clips adding titles and piecing them all together to make a start on producing the finished film, after capturing the clips we placed them all on the time line and started too trim all of the clips and make them the right lengths, we then started adding titles and music too the timeline, we played the movie back on a tv which was connected too the computer, we played the movie back to people that we asked for feedback, and asked them to tell us what they liked and disliked about the movie we contact them using mobile phones and email.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

from our audience feedback we have gained almost all positive feedback, saying that they think our trailer is of a good standard, but we have also receive some feedback which we found helpful in the production of our trailer, and all of the comments we had got was taken into consideration and used to improve our product, most of the comments involved ways we could improve shots, editing and sound, causing us to try many different songs before we actually settle with the one being used currently, many of the shots were average shots found in most movies made currently, so we change the camera angles to make them look like all images were recorded using strategically placed CCTV cameras, but all in all we do believe that our trailer meets all the needs of the user, and meets all the specifications they gave to us to make our trailer better.

Alleyway photos: these shots make it feel as if the alley way is never ending adding a sense of urgency and need to get out of the alley when being chased, giving our movie both the feel of an action movie and a horror movie.

Photos of urban areas: these locations give the movie a more urban look making the viewer think the movie revolves around gangsters, and makes the viewer think about the reasons the chase may be happening. Which will not be shown giving the viewer a more urgency in the fact they want too know what is going on?
